Visa guide
Quick verdict
Argentina is a fit if you hold a tourist-visa-exempt passport, can document real remote income from a foreign client or employer, and only need a base for up to one year total.
There are two different application channels that lead to the same 180-day residence: pre-authorization from abroad through the TIE 24H electronic system before you travel, or an in-person application at a Dirección Nacional de Migraciones (DNM) office once you are already in the country. Which one applies to you is a first decision, not a detail.
This record is core verified against the Boletín Oficial disposition, the argentina.gob.ar service pages, and the 2025 mandatory-insurance decree, but the exact government fee in USD, processing time, and tax treatment are not yet verified and are intentionally left blank.
- Best fit: remote employees or independent contractors from visa-exempt countries who are paid by a foreign-domiciled employer or client and can prove it with contracts, invoices, or income receipts.
- Main hurdle: no fixed income number exists, so you must convince a caseworker with documentary evidence rather than clearing a published threshold; nationality eligibility is gated by Argentina's general tourist-visa-exemption list, not a nomad-specific list.
- Hard cap: the residence is granted for up to 180 days and can be extended only once, for an identical term, for a maximum total stay of about 360 days. There is no further renewal path recorded.
- The extension requires having stayed in Argentina for at least 50% of the initial residence period, plus fresh income documentation and an Argentine criminal-background certificate.
Two application channels, same 180-day residence
Argentina's Ministry of Foreign Affairs runs an electronic pre-authorization system, Tramitación de Ingreso Electrónica (TIE 24H), under Law 25,871 Article 24(h) and Disposición DNM 758/2022. Applicants from visa-exempt countries submit their application, CV, passport, photo, and proof of remote-work activity online before traveling, then receive an email authorization to present to the immigration officer on arrival.
The argentina.gob.ar service page for people who want the residence while already inside Argentina is explicit that this route is handled in person and not through the Radex portal: CABA-based applicants email asesoramiento@migraciones.gob.ar, and applicants elsewhere in the country present at their jurisdiction's DNM office. Decide which channel matches your situation before assembling documents, since the online and in-person routes ask for the same underlying proof but move through different systems.
No fixed income number, but real proof is required
Disposición DNM 758/2022 and the matching service pages ask for a signed application describing the independent work to be performed, a brief CV showing relevant experience and education level, at least one occupational reference, and documentary proof of the activity: a contract, a company endorsement, a labor-demand request, certifications, or receipts of income or fees.
No official page or the disposition itself states a minimum monthly or annual income figure. This record does not invent one. Aggregator sites that quote a specific USD/month number for Argentina are not citing an official source found during this research; treat any such figure as unverified.
180 days, one extension, then you are done
The initial grant is up to 180 days. Disposición DNM 758/2022 Article 3 and the official extension service page state the extension is granted a single time, for a term identical to the original residence, conditioned on having remained in Argentine territory for at least 50% of the period being extended. That puts the realistic maximum continuous stay on this route at roughly 360 days, after which the record does not show a further renewal or an automatic path to a different residence category.
Extension also requires a fresh Argentine criminal-background certificate and updated proof of income earned from the remote services performed. Applicants who cannot show at least 50% physical presence in the country should not count on the extension being available.
What is still unknown
This record verifies the legal basis (Disposición DNM 758/2022), the visa-exempt-nationality gate, the 180-day plus one-extension duration, the required application documents for both the initial grant and the extension, the two application channels, and the 2025 general mandatory health-insurance declaration that applies to all transitory residents including digital nomads.
It does not yet verify a specific USD government fee for the digital-nomad subcategory (the migration fee schedule lists Article 24(h) transitory-residence fees in UMSM units, a unit whose ARS/USD conversion this record has not confirmed for a specific date), official processing-time commitments, Argentine tax treatment of digital-nomad income, whether any special customs or banking benefits apply, dependent/family rules, and whether time on this residence counts toward any later Argentine permanent-residence application.
