Decision guide
Quick verdict
Croatia is a good candidate if you want a longer EU base than a 90-day tourist stay and your remote work is clearly outside the Croatian labor market.
The official monthly means threshold is currently EUR 3,622.50, with higher lump-sum amounts if you plan to stay 12 or 18 months.
The route is not a permanent-residence shortcut. The Ministry of Interior lists temporary stay up to 18 months; extension only applies when the first grant is shorter than the maximum, and a fresh digital-nomad stay application has a waiting period after expiry.
- Best fit: remote employees, founders, or freelancers working through a company that is not registered in Croatia and not serving Croatian employers.
- Main hurdle: proving the income or sufficient funds amount, health insurance, a clean criminal record, and a Croatian address.
- Stay length: up to 18 months. If initially granted for less than 18 months, the official page allows an extension up to the maximum; after expiry, a new digital-nomad stay application has a waiting period.
- Tax status is not marked favorable in this record until an official tax source is added.
What matters most for this visa
For Croatia, the recorded headline requirements are EUR 3,622.50 / month in income, up to 18 months of stay, and yes remote-work proof. Renewal, dependents, Schengen rights, and tax-residency risk matter just as much as the headline requirement.
